Why look for answers?

The urgent and the important…

We all know how easily the urgent can squeeze out the important.  Life rushes along fast-paced but superficial until something forces us to go deeper: a breakdown in health, the loss of a job, the birth of a child or the passing of a friend.  Suddenly the urgent doesn’t seem quite so important and the important takes on a new urgency.  We find oursleves re-thinking life’s priorities, which may include setting aside time to explore the deeper questions of life.

Alpha is one way of doing this.  Over two million people in the UK have attended an Alpha course, which runs for eleven weeks.  The course is designed primarily for people who aren’t churchgoers and people attend for a variety of reasons.  Some want to investigate whether God exists, others may have attended church but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.

“What Alpha offers, and what is attracting tens of thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions – life and death and their meaning.”The Guardian

julie2Julie says, “It was great to know I could ask any question at Alpha without judgment, and that difficult issues such as suffering were not off limits. It was helpful to have Christians share their understanding and interpretations, without being told what I should or shouldn’t believe.”  Read her full story here.

Debbie and Neill Hart for Alpha-smallDebbie says, “Attending Apha was the best decision I ever made and now, nine months later, my life has turned 180 degrees and every day I am excited about what will happen.”  Read her full story here.
