An Advent Thought
The challenge of Advent is that a season primarily about stillness and attentiveness quickly becomes one of frantic activity. Preparing our homes for Christmas (shopping, cards, gifts, decorations, menus and hospitality) leaves little time for preparing our hearts for Jesus’ coming.
There is so much in our lives that needs to be put in order, so many rough paths that need to be made smooth, and we need time to sit quietly in the presence of the one who came as the light of the world so that our lives reflect His light.
‘The hard work of Advent reflection and waiting is mingled with the gift of time and space to dream new dreams, to bathe in pools of hope and to stretch the canvas of our imagination wide enough for God to paint God’s own visions for our lives. Advent is an invitation to dream beyond our comfort zones of what we think can happen in our lives or what God can do.’ (Enuma Okoro)
